Women’s Payout Increases for 2015 Tour of Kansas City
Increasing women’s participation in the sport of cycling is key to the growth and success of the sport. In an effort to increase women’s field sizes, The Tour of Kansas City has significantly increased the women’s payouts. In fact, the women’s payouts have been increased by over $4000 from last year’s event.
Women’s cycling has suffered from inequality in payouts, coverage, and support for a long time. The Tour of Kansas City is looking to rectify these issues. As a first step, this year’s event is offering a women’s prize list that is higher than the men’s prize list.
As far as we know, the Tour of Kansas City is the first event to offer a higher women’s payout; we hope that this brings more awareness to women’s cycling and serves to increase interest and participation in the sport from female athletes.
